Where Would You Go?

If you were to leave NJ, where would you consider moving to, and for what reason(s)? Have you spent any significant amount of time in this place? If so, please tell us what the place is all about; the people, history, geography, taxes, traffic, etc - give us the juicy details.

  1. I left New Jersey and moved to the Jacksonville, FL area. i highly reccomend it. Good weather (hurricanes don't come up this way usually), good people, and until the recession a growing area, so it will be after the recession.

  2. I would love to return to NJ. Hoping too in the next few years.
I know the people of NJ think they have the worst traffic, highest insurance, most corrupt politician etc. It's the same everywhere!! I pay more for my car & homeowners ins. in Texas. Homeowners ins. is outrageous! A normal policy cost $1800 a year. They have a mold problem.
Houston Tx. is a sewer. I'll live in Newark b4 I would live in the city here. Traffic is a nightmare! Housing is cheaper, taxes not so much, but food prices are very expensive. And since Texas is cattle country, you would think you could get a good steak for a decent price. Not going to happen here. The meat is poor quality & it runs upward of $8lb. The Gulf Coast- Galveston & Corpus Christie are cesspools. Doesn't even compare to the Jersey Shore.
As soon as New Jersey's job market picks up, I hope to be getting back to my family, friends & home.
As the tall guy say, Jersey Sux, but it's my home!!

  3. I'd love to move to Eastern PA - not where all the new housing booms have been, but northeastern area. Much less congested, people are more laid back, etc. I'd want to stay kinda close to NJ because of the family living there - but I am SOOOOOO done with this state!

If Corzine makes it back into office the Weichert sign is hitting the front lawn.

  5. Maybe Houston TX as my company is getting a lot of work there lately. I've lived in Texas before and know the downside of Houston - sprawl, heat/humidity - but the economy and the state government is a world better than NJ.
    .
NJ is going down the toilet - thanks to the power of the government workers and their unions.

  6. Anonymous-

Regarding Texas in general, it seems to be an increasingly popular state to relocate to, especially the Austin and San Antonio areas.

  7. lots of jersey folks have showed up here in Easton, PA over the last decade. they keep their NJ/NY jobs, so Easton is just a bedroom community for them. we get higher taxes, they get a longer commute.
the best part of NJ is lower gas prices.

  8. Easton-

Yes, and from what I understand, the same thing has happened in the Stroudsburg area. The commute on 78 and 80 from PA into NJ is nightmarish at best during rush hour.

  9. We went to Atlanta, Georgia. Things are cheaper, closer and warmer. I would never go back.

  10. Im from Jersey born and bred for almost 40 years. I just moved out and I'm not telling you obnoxious big government, toll loving, gun law passing, tax crazy, traffic loving suckers where I am. Stay there and rot. You got what you deserve. Go Corzine! Go Obama! Give em hell cause hell is what they want.

  11. I voting for Corzine to win. I want all you suckers that love NJ so much to suffer. And Suffer you will. Drown in your high taxes and hi crime. Soon you will be defenseless when they make it harder or take away your right to own a handgun. Cuddle up to your wasteland you call Jersey

  14. I left NJ and went to Delaware. Low taxes, easy commute to PA NJ MD. I brought a 1900 sq ft home with a backyard that goes on forever for $155,000.00. I could have never brought a home in NJ. Well not anywhere decent. I love it here and still am an hour from North Jersy where my friends are. Hell I still party in NY on the regular. 20 mins from Philly, and an hour from the Baltimore Harbor. Light traffic, and a 10 commute to work. LUV IT LUV IT LUV IT!

  15. Oh, and annual taxes on my home??? Not even a thousand bucks, and I live 1 min from the PA border in the top of the state of Delaware. Can't beat it. I will never go back to NJ.....

  16. Glad to hear that your move outside of NJ has worked out so well for you. How long ago did you make the move? Is there anything that you miss in NJ?

  17. I have been here since 2007, settled on my home 6/2008, (and got the $7500.00 rebate). Didn't know the taxes in this state were so low. That's what made me stay. I had planned to nove back to New York, but after learning about this state, and obtaining decent employment, decided to stay. No I don't miss the traffic, the smell, the air planes that had a flight pattern over my house to Newark airport..lol...nor the crime in North Jersey...But, being new here it will take some time to acquire the level of friendships that I had in NJ. My good friends are up there, but they do come to visit me often because i'm not that far. And I have made some good friends here so far. I guess the only other thing I miss is going to NY in 20 min for a night out. But I only did that on occasion, yet was paying out the wazuu for the convienence. I'll never go back there to live.

  20. My husband and I moved to Jersey from Ohio 3.5 years ago and we love it here. I guess no matter where you live, you're gonna be unhappy and wanna move somewhere else. The grass is always greener, right?

  21. The grass is always greener, well sometimes.

If you genuinely crave living in a bustling metropolis, then life in rural Nebraska probably won't suit you. And vice versa.

It's a matter of what's important to you, and what makes you happy.

  22. We moved out here for a very good job, that makes 2.5x what he was making in Ohio. When we lived there, we could never afford to buy a house, even a small one. We lived paycheck to paycheck. Now, we have started a savings account and own a condo. We love the proximity to everything, the shopping, the food, the theater, etc. Even tho OH is much cheaper, I'd never, ever go back.

  23. Moved to NC, but am regretting it.

Taxes here are nearly as oppressive as NJ. Its not one item, but the aggregate.

EVERYTHING is taxed. Your car is subject to Registration fees AND property tax. Groceries are taxed at 2%. The regular state sales tax is 7.75%. The government is just as inept as NJ.

    Don't move here.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Well, perhaps NC isn't the ideal destination for New Jerseyans seeking lower taxes. But, the cost of living overall is still less I'm sure.

That still leaves 48 other possible states to check out.
